The electoral voting system has been strongly questioned since 2018 through a huge wave of disinformation, which has captured the real and legitimate debate, turning it as a political flag. However, doubts about the security of electronic voting are not new in Brazil, existing since its adoption, in 1996. This article points out that this debate has to be considered in the public sphere because it is an important factor of electoral integrity of Brazilian democracy. Having this in mind, it is suggested a public policy analysis to exam the voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) proposal and check if this tool will have the aimed effects on transparency and public trust, improving the electoral integrity levels. This paper also examinates many of the last actions taken by Electoral Superior Court, which has endeavored itself to have this context reverted. As conclusions, it is realized the existence of alternatives besides VVPAT which might be more appropriate to the Brazilian complexity. In spite of that, there are many open questions about how to proceed in the next future, which depends on a more stable political landscape to this discussion.
