摘要
Background. There are two types of endometrial carcinoma with different precursor lesions and molecular features. Material and Methods. The presence of type II endometrial carcinoma was investigated in polyps using immunohistochemical methods. Results. Papillary serous and clear cell carcinomas frequently arise in endometrial polyps. The transition between the normal glandular epithelium and the carcinoma is abrupt and involves mutations in the p53 tumor suppressor gene. Conclusion. Endometrial polyps can be the precursor lesions for type II endometrial carcinoma. The pathway of carcinogenesis in polyps involves alterations in the p53 tumor suppressor gene.
