摘要
The freshwater is only similar to 2.5% of global water resources. The increasing demand, resource reduction and water quality issues are leading to water scarcity in many parts of the world, including India. The climate change impact is likely to further increase stresses on the freshwater systems. Recent projections suggest that the per capita water availability averaged over India will be dropped to 40 to 50 percent by the year 2050, which poses a great challenge for sustainable management of freshwater. Emergent agricultural and developmental requirements in India are also leading to the shrinkage of India's water resources, particularly groundwater. The groundwater meets major water requirements of India. A brief review of water scenario, mainly groundwater in India and potential solutions for sustainability and availability of it are discussed in this article.
