Results of a proficiency testing on the calibration of clinical liquid-in-glass thermometer

This article reports evaluation results of a proficiency testing conducted between clinical labs and Research Centre for Metrology-LIPI (RCM-LIPI), within the framework of calibration of clinical liquid-in-glass thermometer (CLIGT). RCM-LIPI is the pilot lab and has duty in the determination of reference value by linking the results to the SI-traceable National Standards. Two CLIGTs were calibrated against a standard platinum resistance thermometer in RCM-LIPI. Afterward, the CLIGTs were circulated through two calibration loops to eight labs and were calibrated at their calibration facilities using their owned routine procedure. The results show that three of the eight labs failed the comparison with |E-n| values greater than one. The article gives suggested solutions to identified measurement issues at these three labs that need attention.
