摘要
Proteases are ubiquitous to all the living organisms. Their involvement in the life cycle of various disease causing organisms has led them to become a potential target for developing therapeutic agents against life-threatening diseases such as bacterial infection, cancer, malaria and AIDS. This review is mainly focused on the applications of microbial proteases such as serrapeptase, serrazime, lysostaphin, L-asparaginase, L-glutaminase, streptokinase, streptokinase-streptodornase and xiaflex. These enzymes are being used in the treatment of inflammation, respiratory tract disorders, cardiovascular disease and cancer.
