X-ray laser line narrowing: new developments

摘要
The idea of using an optical laser to decrease the Stark width of hydrogenic spectral lines from a plasma and hence increase X-ray laser gain, proposed some 8 years ago, is first applied in a full calculation of the narrowing of the LiIII L-alpha line, which is of interest to recombination optical field ionization X-ray lasers. Next, the concept is analysed and the mechanism is explained in detail. Finally, it is demonstrated that the idea is also applicable to nonhydrogenic lines and hence of interest to current X-ray laser work. The main point of this idea is that for any line it is possible to reduce its Stark width by using ail optical laser. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
