Sensitivity of magnetic X-ray dichroism for chemical order in MBE-grown FEPD layers

摘要
Several thin him Fe50Pd50 binary alloys have been grown with MBE on a MgO(OO I) substrate. We report the effect of different degrees of chemical order due to different the growth temperature as measured with magnetic circular X-ray dichroism (MCXD) at the Pd L-2,L-3 edge. We show that dichroism is a sensitive tool to study the modifications in the chemical order. The effective spin moment and orbital moment were determined using the sum rules for the integrated signals and exhibit comparable variations. This is the first evidence reported for changes in spin and orbital moments in the FePd system. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
