Anomalous low-temperature thermal conductivity of MgB2

The ab-plane thermal conductivity of single-crystalline hexagonal MgB2 has been measured as a function of magnetic field with orientations both parallel and perpendicular to the c-axis and at temperatures between 0.5 and 8 K. The observed anomalous variation of the thermal conductivity in magnetic fields at constant temperature is consistent with a field-induced suppression of two superconducting energy gaps of significantly different magnitude. An anomalous nonlinear temperature dependence of the electronic thermal conductivity, violating the Wiedemann-Franz law, is observed in the field-induced normal state. (C) 2003 Elsevier Science B.V.
