Corrosion resistance of some stainless steels in titanium tetrachloride

The paper is studying the corrosion behaviour of the W 4306, W 4541 and W 4571 stainless steels in anhydrous TiCl4, with a 1 parts per thousand 1% vol. H2O addition, at the ambient temperature, in the Liquid-vapour phases and the phases separation limit. The corrosion rate (mm/y) pitting and stress corrosion cracking (45 kgf/mm(2) applied stress) susceptibility as well as the corrosion effects upon the mechanical properties. For identical exposure intervals (i.e. 1980 h), W 4571 is superior to W 4306 steel. The W 4541 stability is not modified by hydration of the environment, the material being perfectly stable after 1332 h of exposure.
