摘要
This article presents, translates, and shares concepts developed by Andrea O'Reilly about Motherhood Studies and Matricentric Feminism. These concepts were part of the theoretical foundation of my doctoral research, in which I explored Motherhood in Brazilian and Canadian advertising. First, I present the ambivalent feelings and difficulties faced by contemporary mothers, mentioning how motherhood and mothering affect women's daily routines. Next, I discuss motivations and relevant concepts related to the theory and practice of Matricentric Feminism (O'REILLY, 2016). According to this author, motherhood is the unfinished business of feminism in academic debates and feminist activist movements. I conclude by arguing that it is necessary to create spaces to discuss motherhood and mothering in Brazil as relevant issues for Feminist and Gender studies; and expressing the need for support for the inclusion, permanence, and progress of mothers in the Brazilian universities.
