Based on the principles of Common Focus Point (CFP) technology we develop a velocity-depth model estimation methodology. This approach is applied in the CFP domain which is halfway between the two focusing steps: focusing in emission and focusing in detection. The principle of equal traveltime is the criterion of the macromodel validation and update. By picking the time differences between the synthesis operator times and the one-way times in the CFP gathers a velocity and depth update can be calculated. We illustrate the effectiveness of this CFP-based velocity-depth estimation with a 2-D dataset from the Red Sea basin of Saudi Arabia.
