Slag refining for separation of SiC inclusions from Si

摘要
SiC inclusions, the hard particles present in Si, have an adverse effect on the mechanical and electrical performance of Si materials. In this study, the separation behavior of SiC in Si was investigated through slag refining. Evaluation of the wettability behaviors between SiC and the CaO-SiO2-MgO slag revealed that the contact angle of SiC/CaO-SiO2-MgO at 1480 degrees C decreased with time, and the surface of SiC became rough due to the reaction between SiC and the slag. Based on the results, a slag refining process was performed, and a strong SiC removal effect was realized under the conditions of long refining times and large slag/Si-SiC ratios.
