An uncommon type of high-pressure four-phase equilibria in the system carbon dioxide plus water plus 1-hexanol

摘要
In mixtures of carbon dioxide + water + 1-hexanol, an uncommon type of four-phase equilibria was observed experimentally. This type of four-phase equilibria was theoretically postulated more than 100 years ago by J.W. Gibbs but has never been proven to exist until now. The uncommon feature of this type of four-phase equilibria is that in the Gibbs phase diagram the fourth phase lies within the triangle formed by the other three phases. That phase behavior is also predicted by the Redlich-Kwong-Soave equation of state with Huron-Vidal mixing rules.
