Using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction, a structural study of the phase transformations in some alloys (Fe-10; 28 and 46 wt.% V) of the Fe-V system has been conducted. It has been shown that the existence region of the (T-phase is in the temperature range from 650 to 1219 degrees C and that the (T-phase precipitates immediately from a solid solution but not through an ordered B2-phase. The phase separation of an Fe(V) solid solution takes place below 650 degrees C and grains heavily enriched in iron are formed. An improved version of the Fe-rich portion of the Fe-V phase diagram is presented. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
