Magnetic and optical properties of the Aurivillius phase Bi5Ti3FeO15

摘要
Polycrystalline Bi5Ti3FeO15 ceramics of layered perovskite phase, having particle size of 2-5 mu m, were synthesized by the solid state reaction method. Their Magnetic and optical properties were investigated in detail. X-ray diffraction pattern showed that Bi5Ti3FeO15 ceramics were orthorhombic. The result of magnetic measurement indicated the weak ferromagnetic order of Bi5Ti3FeO15 ceramics at room temperature, which may be ascribed to the different magnetic moments of the two Fe3+ ions surrounded by different oxygen environments. An energy band gap of 2.03 eV was determined from the UV-vis diffuse absorption spectrum. The observed strong absorption in the UV region will enable Bi5Ti3FeO15 powers to be potentially used as promising photocatalytic decomposition material. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
