摘要
Although these fundamentalists were concerned with growing liberal trends in theology, their major objection to modernism revolved around evolutionism and the manner in which this called into question basic scriptural "Truths." This, combined with the changing nature of American society as a global "Power" emergent from World War I, shook what many Christians considered the firm foundation for life in the United States. In other words, the post-war years presented new challenges that held the potential to destroy the world through a profound faithlessness.
