Transcatheter Tricuspid Valve Interventions - Beyond Current Guidelines Recommendations

Within in the last decade, the formerly forgotten tricuspid valve has reached centre stage in both scientific and clinical cardiovascular medicine and has sparked a large interest. Originally, transcatheter tricuspid valve interventions have emerged given the need of providing less invasive and effective treatment options for high-risk patients. Although these approaches are already successfully established in clinical practice, there is a gap of knowledge prohibiting full implementation in current guidelines. With the lack of prospective randomized trials, which are to come within the next few years, patient and device selection depends on well conducted retrospective studies and pathophysiological considerations. An interdisciplinary approach integrating these considerations within a heart team is the key to establish optimized and individualized patient treatment concepts.
