摘要
Recent market needs and innovation are blurring the traditional boundaries between the automotive and other fields, from which new technological paradigm may emerge. Such technology convergence leads to industry convergence that causes reconfiguration of industry structure. Thus, this study attempts to examine the changes in the automotive industry by utilizing patents as an indicator of converged technology to analyze the overall trends in terms of the scope of convergence. We then aim to discover the patterns of industry convergence by measuring the degree of convergence between technological domains within the automotive industry and other industrial sectors. As a result, we demonstrate the dynamics of the automotive industry in terms of industry convergence and identify three technological domains that drive the automotive industry's convergence and eight industrial sectors rapidly converging with the automotive industry.
