摘要
Migratory flows can bring about new linguistic, social and identity dynamics on individual, family, or community level. Departing from the Spolsky's (2004) model which suggests the analysis of language ideology, language management and language practices, this research focused on linguistic ideology. This paper presents a case study of 9 informants of Croatian origin (belonging to 6 different families) who have had a migratory experience in Italy as well as the one of repatriation. This research examined some aspects of the linguistic ideology of the 1st and 2nd generation, i.e. their general attitudes on bilingualism and bilingual education, their perception of language maintenance and/or shift from Croatian (in Italy) and from Italian (in Croatia) as well as the agentivity of the 2nd generation. The research results indicate that both generations faced the distress pertaining to the bilingualism (Moin et al. 2013; Moretti e Antonini 2000). The research demonstrated that nurturing positive attitudes towards bilingualism can offer positive influence on language transmission (Canagarajah 2008; Dal Negro e Guerini 2007) and that the 2nd generation had a decisive role in the family language choices in migratory context (Pauwels 2004; Smith-Christmas 2016; Wilson 2020).
