APPLICATION OF NEW CLASSICAL PROBES IN SWIRL FLUID FLOW MEASUREMENTS

A six-channel Conrad probe with a spherical measuring volume 8 mm in diameter was used to measure a stationary turbulent swirl flow field. A one-dimensional velocity flow field was measured by the use of a Pitot-Prandtl probe and two original classical probes for measuring two-dimensional pipe swirl flow field were developed in our laboratory. The combined Prandtl probe ensured measurement of static and total pressures at the same measuring point, while velocity was measured by a standard Pitot probe positioned in the jet, next to the combined Prandtl probe. The results show that the measurement of the velocity and pressure of a two-dimensional swirl flow field is slightly longer than the time for using the multi-hole probes. Constant fan rotation speed is controlled by a mechanical device with accuracy of ∓2 rpm.
