This paper describes some control experiments and laboratory activities that have been implemented in the Process Control Laboratory at the Federal University of Santa Catarina in order to support the Process Control and Automation Course. Practical results are important for the students' confidence in the learning of analytical and experimental techniques. increased interest in industrial applications dictates the need for students in the process control area who have a good understanding of practical aspects such as identification, instrumentation, digital control, data acquisition and real-time programs. A control laboratory is important to complement the students' understanding on analysis and design of dynamic systems with some hands-on experience. Copyright (C) 1998 IFAC.
