摘要
Basalt fibres have high tensile strength and modulus, good chemical resistance, extended operating temperature range, and also is environmental friendly. The main aim of this study is to test the tensile properties of basalt filament yarn, analyse the effect of the tensile properties of basalt filament yarn on weaving process, and characteristic analysis of ballistic impact on basalt fabrics. The production difficulties of basalt filament yarn on weaving process are discussed. The energy absorption of basalt fabrics after the ballistic impact is analysed. The purpose of the study is to explore the possibility of using basalt yarn as body armour to replace Kevlar yarn which is used currently. Based on the comparative analysis of measurement data, put forward the idea to replace partially Kevlar body armour fabrics with basalt fabrics, and make interweave fabrics of Kevlar filament yarn and basalt filament yarn for body armour.
