The UN Security Council sanctions regime against the DPRK has been in force for more than 11 years. It mainly aims at preventing the country from developing its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs. A distinctive feature of the last two years was the introduction of sectoral sanctions affecting certain sectors of the DPRK economy. In particular, a ban on imports of coal, iron, iron ore, lead, lead ore, textiles, seafood, gold, silver, rare earth minerals and other goods from the DPRK was introduced. The resolutions prohibited the export of all condensates and natural gas liquids to the DPRK, and introduced crude oil and refined petroleum products caps.
