With an increasing number of site-specific interactive artworks, museums need to question - not only for future generations, but even more importantly, for current audiences how is it possible to access and preserve archived material. This practice-based research evaluates the possibilities and problems of Augmented Reality as a tool to reactivate archived material with an exemplary investigation at ZKM, Karlsruhe in 2013. During this research, I explored different methods for offering insight into a series of works in the publicly accessible foyer. In doing so, I encountered several difficulties but also benefits, which will be discussed in this paper. My analysis of the field yielded knowledge about the successful implementation of AR in different scenarios, which I can illustrate with some rewarding examples.
