The Influence of Chicken Scratch Collagen with Local Hydroxyapatite as Bone Substitute Material Toward the Bone Remodelling of Rattus Sprague Dawley

Alveolar bone resorption has affected thousands of patients after tooth extraction and disturbing the retention and stabilization of denture. Hydroxyapatite has been used as bone substitute material, but it has several weaknesses. The purpose of this study was to observe the influence of chicken scratch collagen with local hydroxyapatite as bone substitute material toward the bone remodelling of Rattus Sprague Dawley. The subject of the remodelling test was 75 male of Rattus Sprague Dawley; each was 3 months old. All of the subjects was divided into 3 groups. The group I was local hydroxyapatite chicken scratch collagen, the group II was chicken scratch collagen, and the group III was local hydroxyapatite-collagen. Each of subject was decapitated after 3, 7, 10, 14, 28 days after treatment. The defect was made in the femur condyle of Rattus Sprague Dawley with the size of 3x3x2 mm(3). The defect area was taken and made histological slides. The number of osteoblast and osteoclast were measured with a trinocular microscope. All of the data were analyzed using two ways ANOVA test. The result showed that there is a significant difference between a group of local hydroxyapatite chicken scratch collagen, chicken scratch collagen, and local hydroxyapatite-collagen after 3, 7, 10, 14, 28 days treatment on the number of osteoblast and osteoclast (p<0.05). The conclusion was the chicken scratch collagen with local hydroxyapatite as bone substitute material increased the bone remodelling of Rattus Sprague Dawley.
