Persistent right aortic arch in a German Shepherd - a case report

A nine-week-old female German Shepherd was presented with regurgitation. A precordial dilation of the esophagus due to a persistent right aortic arch (PRAA) was diagnosed. Surgical treatment for PRAA was directed toward relief of the vascular ring constriction by dividing the ligamentum arteriosum after left-sided thoracotomy. Based on this case and with reference to the literature pathophysiology, clinical signs, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, treatment und postoperative follow-up of this congenital vascular ring disease are described and discussed.
