High-temperature X-ray diffraction of polycrystalline YNi2B2C has been used to determine the thermal-expansion coefficients of YNi2B2C and its decomposition temperature for temperature sweeps from room temperature up to 1200 degrees C. The lattice parameters a and c exhibit a thermal expansivity of different magnitude and thus indicate an anisotropic characteristic of the chemical bonds between the atoms of the unit cell.
