The case of eSports: how should sports be defined? On traits and basic ideas

摘要
The article takes the present debate about eSports as the occasion and material to discuss the more general problem of how to articulate a basic understanding of sports and how to bring different basic understandings into a discussion. Starting with the analysis of the present debate, the article suggests making a sharp distinction between the determination of properties of sports and the plea to a distinct underlying understanding of sports. The benefit is the methodical control of the debate due to the plea to the so-called basic ideas of human cultural practices and a comparison between them. Therefore, it is necessary to give a short sketch of the concept of cultural practice.
