In the title compound, C17H14O3S, there are two independent molecules and the intramolecular dihedral angles between the mean planes of the 4-tolyl and the 2-naphthyl rings are 55.11 (7)degrees and 65.10 (7)degrees. C-H...O interactions generate rings of graph-set motif S(5), S(6), R-1(2)(4), R-2(1)(6), R-2(1)(8) and R-2(1)(9). The supramolecular aggregation is completed by the presence of several C-H...pi interactions.
