摘要
The unusual layout used for the tail-rhyme stanzas of Chaucer's Tale of Sir Thopas in many important manuscripts of the Canterbury Tales sheds additional light on this tale's relationship to the Middle English romances it burlesques. After establishing that Chaucer employs a unique but recognisable variant of a traditional Anglo-Norman and Middle English layout, here termed "graphic tail-rhyme", this article explores the implications of this fact for our understanding of the nature of Chaucer's parody. © The Author (2005).
