This paper presents a general approach to locate any type of fault on either a single-circuit or a double-circuit transmission line when only current magnitude measurements are available. Emphasis is given to double-circuit line. The distinctive feature of the proposed fault location method is the current measurements employed can be from one or more branches, which are not restricted to those of the faulted section. Evaluation studies based on EMTP simulation have shown quite accurate results.
