Synthesis, structural and optical properties of Eu3+ activated fluoroperovskite (RbMgF3) phosphors

Pure and Europium (Eu3+) activated Rubidium Magnesium Fluoride (RbMgF3) phosphors were prepared by standard conventional solid state reaction method. The synthesized phosphors were characterized by Powder X-Ray Diffraction (PXRD) to confirm the phase purity. Molecule vibration activities were checked by Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) analysis. The surface morphology of RbMgF3 phosphors was characterized by Field Emission - Scanning Electron Microscopy analysis (FE-SEM). The elemental composition and purity of the products were confirmed by the energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) results. UV-Visible spectral study was carried out for the Eu3+ doped RbMgF3 phosphors. Photoluminescence (PL) Emission and excitation were measured. The Commission Internationale del'Eclairage (CIE) chromaticity coordinates of Eu3+ activated RbMgF3 phosphors were calculated to be x = 0.571 and y = 0.426. The quantum efficiency of the as prepared 0.5 mol% Eu3+ doped RbMgF3 phosphors was analyzed. The experimental result reveals that the Eu3+ doped RbMgF3 red emitting phosphor is a potential candidate for white light emitting diodes (WLEDs) pumped by near-UV chip. The thermolumi-nescence property of Eu3+ activated RbMgF3 has been investigated for X-ray irradiation. The main TL glow curve peak exhibits 530 K.
