The current state of scientific production in Higher Education in El Salvador

This article aims to identify the current state of scientific production at the level of Higher Education institutions in El Salvador; in particular the University of El Salvador (UES); for being the only public university in the country. In this sense, reference is made to one of its regional headquarters, the Oriental Multidisciplinary Faculty, in order to understand the articulation of the basic functions of the University such as: Teaching, Research and Social Projection, which result in the scientific production processes. In addition, a review is carried out of the main institutions that show the ranking of the scientific production available to universities, through metrics that manage to position them nationally and internationally. With respect to the UES, the analysis carried out on the data, allows to analyze its state of scientific production in relation to the public universities of Central America, occupying the last place, which reflects the little contribution in explaining or contributing to the solution of the problems historical and structural conditions that Salvadoran society is experiencing.
