摘要
This paper summarizes progress in Canadian efforts related to a proposed CO2 ocean sequestration experiment off the Kona coast, Hawaii in the year 2001. The work includes: (1) a laboratory study of the performance of pH sensors, especially their stability and response in high CO2 seawater, such as might be encountered in a field survey of the CO2 plume in a sequestration experiment; (2) an assessment of the validity of applying thermodynamic relations for CO2 in natural seawater to seawater with high CO2 content; (3) spatial and temporal distributions of pH and dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) at the proposed site near Kona, Hawaii, obtained in a background oceanographic survey in August, 1999; and (4) construction of an automated multi-sampler for attaching to a remote operating vehicle (ROV) to be used in the sequestration experiment.
