摘要
Nowadays interpreters need much more knowledge than they used to. That is why this knowledge should be broad-based. And using interdisciplinary environment appears dramatically fruitful. Students plunge into diverse areas, they acquire possibility to see words and sets of words from different perspectives, always paying attention to the context. It enriches their vocabulary, makes their thinking and speech fluent and empowers. The article considers examples of using the study of local lore, history and economy for mastering interpreting skills through expanding background knowledge of university students. It allows being on firm ground even for beginning interpreters, as it is so important to be with head above water in unexpected situations. Sometimes it happens so that there is a lack of proper words or terms, then, at least, this additional bundle of knowledge may be of great help and an interpreter may convey his message through explanation or description. The article will be interesting to those who want to make their interpreting lessons more motivating, based on real situations in a variety of spheres.
