Three-dimensional finite-element modeling of optical microring resonators

In this paper, we present the results of three-dimensional full vectorial finite-element simulations of microring silicon resonators intended for add/drop multiplexing and switching applications. Second-order edge elements are used, and the computational domain is closed using a standard perfectly matched layer. Examples of both lateral and vertical configurations are analyzed using the modal-driven frequency domain approach. The calculations are performed in a wide spectral range around the first and the second telecommunication window.
