摘要：

This paper considers the gendered construction of science and scientific geography in Britain during the nineteenth century. It explores the general exclusion of women from public institutionalized science and their location in amateur, domestic pursuits, whilst simultaneously problematizing this binary construction. Finally the paper speculates on the legacy of the past on the gendering of contemporary physical geography.
