Content and composition of nonstarch water-soluble polysaccharides in seeds of some Fabaceae

摘要
Nonstarch water-soluble polysaccharides (NWP) were extracted from the seeds of 12 legume species. Complete acid hydrolysis and gas liquid chromatography were used to determine the composition of monosaccharides in the extracted compounds. Galactomannans (GM), composed mainly of mannose and galactose, were isolated from NWP, and the ratio of constituent monomers was determined. The role of GM in the physiology of seed germination is discussed.
