The microstructural observations of the laser cladding of Cu-30Ni, were discussed. A diode laser, because of its highest output efficiency compared to other laser sources such as CO2 or YAG laser, was used to heat the source. Different process parameters such as laser power, laser translation speed, wire feed rate and beam angle were used to evaluate the microstructure. The results of the microstructural characterization indicated that high integrity clads can be produced within a wide range of process parameters.
