The electrochromic copolymer based on 9-vinylcarbazole (VC) with 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene (EDOT) was characterized. The thin film copolymer P(VC-co-EDOT) was electrochemically synthesized and characterized via cyclic voltammetry, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, SEM and colorimetry. Spectroelectrochemical investigations showed that resulting copolymer film has discrete electrochromic properties. At the neutral state lambda(max) due to the pi-pi* transition was found to be 511 nm and E-g was calculated as 1.7 eV. Double potential step chronoamperometry experiment showed that copolymer film has good stability; fast switching time and high optical contrast (50%) at 1100 nm. Purple color at oxidized state and blue color at reduced state were observed. At interval potential device had good transparency and greenish-blue color.
