摘要
Metastasizing osteosarcoma and pulmonary adiaspiromycosis in a free-ranging western European hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus) An adult western European hedgehog was referred with a swelling and severe lameness of the left forelimb. Radiologically, a periostal neoplastic growth of a hen's egg size was found on the proximal forelimb infiltrating the soft tissue around the humerus, elbow, proximal radius and ulna. It was characterized by bony density and a solar flare appearance. Pathology revealed a periostal osteosarcoma with metastases in the regional lymph node, lung, liver and subcutis. In addition, a multifocal granulomatous pneumonia was found with intralesional fungal structures. The morphology of the latter was consistent with the dimorphic fungus Chrysosporium parvum var. parvum, the causative agent of adiaspiromycosis.
