Prediction of the lowest melting point eutectic in the Fe-Cr-Mo-V-C system

摘要
In ternary systems, the liquidus surface is often represented by a group of constant temperature contours projected onto a composition plane, i.e. the liquidus projection. In such a diagram, the variation with temperature of the liquid corner of three phase tie-triangles appears as a series of univariant lines that intersect at eutectics and peritectics. These univariant lines can be projected onto a temperature vs. composition plane, too, regardless of the number of components, and from intersections of the lines on the projection the lowest melting point eutectic can be readily identified. In the present work, the lowest melting point eutectic in the Fe-Cr-Mo-V-C system was investigated using univariant line projections predicted by Thermo-Gale software. The analysis covered the quinary system as well as the related binaries, ternaries and quaternaries.
