摘要
The spatial distribution of soluble inorganic nitrogen concentrations in the surface waters flowing on a paddy field in southwest Japan was studied. Nitrate concentrations decreased exponentially with the distance from the inlet point of irrigation. The half-value distance was about 24 m during summer conditions at a water depth of ca. 10 cm and a flow rate of ca. 1 mm s(-1). Based on findings, it was estimated that only 5% of the total area of paddy fields is needed to remove half of the nitrogen loadings from small streams to the water catchment area of Atsumi Bay, the inner part of Mikawa Bay.
