Why Isn't Cyberspace More Secure?

The security related issues with cyberspaces are assessed and governmental actions towards improving cyber security and addressing future challenges are evaluated. Major advances in the security of US digital infrastructure and significant changes on their construction or operation will allow the nation to protect itself from the growing threat of cybercrime and state-sponsored intrusions and operations. The steps that the US federal government can take to improve Internet security include use the government's purchasing power to require higher security standards of its vendors. Amending the Privacy Act so that Internet Service Providers (ISP) can disclose when a customer's computer has become part of a botnet and defining behaviors that would permit ISPs to block or sequester traffic from botnet-controlled addresses can also be helpful. Removing the antitrust concern when US-based firms collaborate on researching, developing, or implementing security functions provide efficient security to cyberspaces.
