摘要：
AGN are strong X-ray emitters, supermassive black holes powered by mass accretion. X-ray observations allow to probe the direct vicinity of the black holes and the circum-nuclear environment. Results of X-ray studies of active galactic nuclei are summarized on selected topics. Related subjects on luminous infrared galaxies and the cosmic X-ray background are also discussed.
