Since the advent of hip replacement the number of procedures performed worldwide has increased dramatically, and total hip arthroplasty is now one of the most common (and most successful) surgical procedures. Evolution of fixation methods and bearing surfaces has resulted in a constant evolution and development in revision techniques. Further development of these in the years ahead will be necessary to address an increasing burden of revision procedures aimed at preservation and restoration of soft tissue and bone.
