In 2015 a total of 2036 articles were published in German or English on the topic of type 1 diabetes mellitus. The most important of these publications with implications for the daily practice are summarized in this article, e. g. in 2015 and 2016 enormous progress was made in treatment with machine configurations (sensor + pump + steering unit), corresponding to artificial pancreas systems. A group from Finland published very interesting findings on pancreatic tissue from patients with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes mellitus. For the discussion on HbA(1c) therapy goals in the treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus, very important results came from a Swedish long-term (24 years) study: no severe microangiopathic complications occurred in patients with mean HbA(1c) values < 7.6 %.
