Effect of Dielectric Constant on the Energy Shift in Localized Surface Plasmons Resonance

摘要
In nanoparticles, material properties are often used to functionalize them for various applications. In metallic nanoparticle, the localized surface plasmons shows an interesting property upon external excitation i.e. there is a sizeable optical resonance red shift with increase in the dielectric constant of the surrounding medium. In this paper, we present an alternate model of this phenomena showing that it is a direct result from the theory of the parallel resonance circuit. We show that the magnitude of the peak red shift depends upon the value of the components of resonant circuit, which are directly derived from the dielectric function of the surrounding medium. The derived results are accurate and their equivalence is compared with Mie solution.
