Analysis of recent studies indicated that approximately 30% to 40% of patients presenting with CHF are found to have normal or near-normal left ventricular systolic function, The sings and symptoms of the disorder are similar to those of CHF with left ventricular systolic dysfunction, underscoring a need for routine evaluation of ventricular performance in patients with CHF. Diastolic function is often compromised in patients with CHF and preserved left ventricular systolic function, rendering standard therapy ineffective or even deleterious.
