Grimmia incrassicapsulis B G Bell an austral cool temperate species, is recorded for the first time in the tropics It was collected at an elevation of 4509 m a s l at the summit of Mount Wilhelm in the Bismarck Range in Papua New Guinea The species is described and illustrated its name is lectotypified and the global distribution reviewed and mapped.
